Phonological Awareness

Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
Research shows that segmenting and blending phonemes has functional value in reading (Shanahan, 2015).
Create CVC words for each picture.
Segment Sounds and Make Words

Collect several water bottle tops.  Use a permanent marker to write letters on the tops and put in this center so students can make 3 letter CVC words.  They will look at the picture,  name the picture, and blend the sounds from the picture.
