High frequency or sight words appear often in text and are words that are useful to emergent readers. Knowing words that appear over and over help students to become fluent readers and writers. These words can eventually be used to build new words.
Help students with known or almost known sight words by focusing on featured sight words in charts, text and Fluency Sentence Strips.
Literacy centers, or games like Bingo, that draw emergent readers to words are helpful in the beginning stages of literacy learning.
Emergent books build confidence in early readers. Students will be able to read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.
